Golf tours in South Africa
Our founder, Russel dreamed up BIGMACK TOURS after a round of golf. Discover how passionate we are about this incredible game as you experience our bespoke golf tours in South Africa including:
You’ve no doubt heard of our country’s reputation for glorious wine tours and epic wildlife safaris, but did you know that we’re also partial to a round or two of golf? South Africa has quickly gained recognition for its pristine golf courses, and boasts no fewer than five of the Golf Digest’s Top 100 Courses:
Leopard Creek, which has hosted The Tour Championship and is the new venue for the Dunhill Championship, ranked 25th. The Links at Fancourt, meanwhile, was the venue for the 2003 Presidents Cup and the Vodacom Origins of Golf Tour Championship and it isn’t too far behind at number 59. The Durban Country Club has hosted sixteen South African Open Championships, including the SAA Open. You’ll find it at number 62 in the Golf Digest’s Top 100. Completing the list at number 100 is the Arabella Estate and Country Club. This magnificent course hosts the annual Nelson Mandela Invitational each year, and is well worth a visit.
More and more often golfers are seeking out prestigious South African courses to play and explore, rather than stumbling upon them by happy accident while they’re touring the country. The South African Open Championship is one of the oldest national Open Golf Championships in the world, and is a principal tournament on the Sunshine Tour. Can we tempt you to come and play a rank or two at any of these courses? We can certainly try!
Big names and awesome games
South Africa has a reputation for being home to some of the most talented golf players in the world. These include big names such as Gary Player, Ernie Els, Charl Schwartzel, Louis Oosthuizen, Tim Clark and Branden Grace, to name but a few. These golfers are widely recognised and have represented their country on numerous occasions. Golf course design also happens to be a big part of their repertoire – particularly those imagined by Gary Player. The Gary Player Country Club is home to the multi-million dollar Nedbank Golf Challenge and the Dimension Data Pro-Am, and ranked 29th in the Golf Digest’s Top 100.
